Newark Mayor Cory Booker Celebrates Christ the King Prep Opening: 'A Bright Beacon of Hope within the City of Newark'

Christ the King Prep opened its doors on September 4, 2007 and celebrated its grand opening with an inaugural liturgy with Father John Foley, President and Founder of the Cristo Rey Network, who was recently featured in Time, Newsweek and on 60 Minutes.  The opening ceremonies included a blessing and commissioning of students, a ribbon cutting and a brief program and luncheon reception.

Local corporate, business and community partners include: AarhusKarlshamn USA, Inc; Archdiocese of Newark; Bendit Weinstock; Broadway House Continuing Care; Catholic Health and Human Services; City National Bank; Durkin & Durkin, LLP; Essex County College; FAPS Inc.; Gibbons, P. C.; Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield of NJ; Kirkpatrick & Lockhart, Preston, Gates, Ellis, LLP ; La Casa de Don Pedro; Maher Terminals; Newark Museum; New York Community Bank; The North Ward Center, Inc.; PSE&G; Railroad Construction Co., Inc.; Seton Hall University School of Law; and The Star-Ledger.  As a part of this Corporate Internship/Work Study Program, our students will work one day a week at some of these local businesses and firms. This corporate internship opportunity helps offset their tuition and gives the students a valuable employment and real world educational experience.  

Christ the King Prep is the newest member of the Cristo Rey Network® , which is a national association of high schools that has received over 22 million dollars from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Cassin Educational Initiatives Foundation to provide quality, Catholic college preparatory education to young people from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

Christ the King Preparatory School will provide a college preparatory curriculum that will meet all of the State of New Jersey graduation requirements.

The Star Ledger has called Christ the King Prep a "Rey of Hope for Newark."
